SC to get 5 new judges soon, govt approved collegium's recommendation

New Delhi: The Supreme Court is going to get 5 new judges soon. The Supreme Court bench has been informed by the government in this regard. The Attorney General said that these appointments would be finalized by Sunday (February 5). The names of Justice Pankaj Mittal, Justice Sanjay Karol, Justice PV Sanjay Kumar, Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah, and Justice Manoj Mishra are included in these 5 judges. 

Three of these judges are Chief Justices of High Courts and two others are also judges of High Courts. On December 13 last year, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the names of these judges. Pankaj Mitta is the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. Along with this, Sanjay Karol is the Chief Justice of Patna High Court. At the same time, Justice PV Sanjay Kumar is also the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court. Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah is a Justice of the Patna High Court and Manoj Mishra is currently a judge of the Allahabad High Court.

Soon the names of these judges can be cleared by the government. With the taking oath of these 5 judges, the total number of judges in the apex court will be 32. There are a total of 34 posts of judges in the Supreme Court, out of which only 27 posts are filled. Earlier on January 31, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended two more names to be sent to the apex court. These include the names of Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Gujarat High Court Chief Justice Arvind Kumar.
