Rio de generio: The Wagner mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin was reportedly onboard the Embraer executive jet model that crashed in Russia. The aircraft has only had one accident in more than 20 years of operation, and it wasn't caused by a mechanical issue.

According to Russian authorities, Prigozhin's name was on the passenger list of the private plane that crashed on Wednesday night, killing everyone on board. According to the Russian news agency TASS, the aircraft was a Brazilian Embraer jet.

The Legacy 600 aircraft was involved in a plane crash in Russia, according to Embraer, but the company did not have any additional information about the incident and had stopped offering support services for the aircraft in 2019.

The aircraft manufacturer claimed that Embraer had complied with all international sanctions against Russia. Sanctions prevent Western aircraft manufacturers from supplying parts or support for aircraft used in Russia.

The Embraer Legacy 600 (plane number RA-02795) allegedly carrying Prigozhin dropped off the radar at 6:11 p.m. local time (15:11 GMT), according to the Flightradar24 online tracker. Unverified social media video depicted what appeared to be a private jet plummeting to the ground.

According to International Aviation HQ, the Legacy 600 entered service in 2002, and nearly 300 were made up until production ended in 2020.

According to International Aviation HQ, there has only been one accident involving a Legacy 600, which happened in 2006 when it collided with a Gol Boeing 737-800 while en route from the Embraer factory in Brazil to the United States.

The Embraer plane was damaged, but the pilot managed to land it without any fatalities or injuries. All 154 people on board the commercial Boeing airliner died when it was shot down.

Two years later, a Brazilian air force report laid the blame for the mid-air collision on two US pilots, traffic controllers, and poor communications. At the time, a pilots' attorney claimed that the accident was caused by careless air traffic controllers and weaknesses in Brazil's air traffic control system.
