Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi has filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha bypoll representing the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Sushil Modi filed the nomination at the Commissioner office in Patna on Wednesday for the by-election to a Rajya Sabha seat mandated by the demise of Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan in Bihar.
Last Friday, the BJP had named Sushil Kumar Modi as its candidate for the by-election to a Rajya Sabha seat in the state. Sushil Kumar Modi's election to the Rajya Sabha is all but certain as the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is ruling with majority in the state assembly. Election to the Rajya sabha seat is due for December 14 if the rival alliance led by the RJD decides to contest. The seat had fallen vacant following the death of Lok Janshakti Party founder and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan.
As the LJP out of the Bihar NDA due to its decision to fight on its own in a bid to target Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led JD(U), a BJP ally, the saffron party has decided to hold the seat which it had offered to Paswan from its quota. During his nomination filing, present Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and State BJP president Sanjay jaiswal were present.
