BHUBANESWAR: Another suspected spy pigeon was found in Odisha's Puri district, said police on Thursday, March 17.

One pigeon was captured from a fishing boat off the coast of Paradip in the Jagatsinghpur district on March 8, making this the second incident in the state in a week.

According to the police, this brand-new spy pigeon was found on Wednesday in the village of Nanpur in the Astarang district of Puri.  The local people nabbed it when it came for mingling with the other pigeons.

They said that the spy pigeon had tags attached to its legs with brass and plastic rings, one of the tags had 'REDDY VSP DN' engraved, while another bore the number 31 on it. Villagers said the pigeon was in the area for a week.

The pigeon's capturer, Bikram Pati, remarked, "We keep pigeons as pets at home. We noticed something odd about the pigeon that came to mix with our doves. It didn't freely interact with the other birds and remained apart. On its legs, we also saw several tags. Hence, we made the decision to catch it and employed a fishing net to do so.

Police stated they are looking into if this pigeon was also being employed for espionage.

The pigeon that was captured on March 8 had what seemed to be a camera and a microchip attached to it. It was delivered for inspection to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL).
