New Delhi: The ongoing winter session of the country's Parliament is not expected to run smoothly. Like the monsoon session, this session of Parliament seems to be witnessing uproar, protests, sloganeering and dharna from the opposition. In fact, 12 suspended Rajya Sabha MPs are scheduled to stage a dharna in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Parliament premises on Wednesday. All these MPs are going to write to Upper House Chairman Venkaiah Naidu to revoke his suspension.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Derek O'Brien said both suspended party MPs Dola Sen and Shanta Chhetri will hold a dharna in front of Gandhi Murthy from 10 am to 6 pm throughout the winter session from Wednesday. We also invite other MPs to support them, he added. Both houses of Parliament witnessed uproar on Tuesday over the suspension of MPs and other opposition parties including Congress, TMC also walked out of the House. Leaders of 16 opposition parties, including the Congress, met Upper House Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu over the issue and requested for cancellation of suspension of these members. Naidu, however, said this is not possible without an apology from suspended MPs.

Even during the proceedings of the Upper House, Venkaiah Naidu rejected the demand for cancellation of suspension of MPs. He said action has been taken as per the rules. Leader of opposition in rajya sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said on the issue that there is no question of apology. He said the suspension of MPs is against the rules and should be withdrawn. He said lawmakers should have had a chance to respond.
