After teasing it a few times last week, Suzuki India has now finally launched the Katana in the Indian market at a base price of Rs 13.61 lakh (ex-showroom). The Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited first released its re-imagined streetfighter from the 80s at EICMA back in 2018, and ever since we have been waiting for the streetfighter in the Indian market. The liter-class motorcycle was upgraded for the global markets earlier this year to comply with Euro V emission standards.

Managing Director of Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd Satoshi Uchida when commenting on the launch said, “We feel proud to announce the launch of the Katana in India. The Katana reflects Suzuki’s commitment to fine craftsmanship and willingness to sweat every detail to get it right. The launch is a part of our strategy to solidify our big bike portfolio in the country. We received a lot of queries from motorcycle enthusiasts after showcasing the Katana at the last auto expo. It is based on the positive feedback of our potential customers that we decided to introduce Katana in India. We are confident that the Katana will be able to make its own cult following in India too.”

SUZUKI Katana is powered by a 999cc four-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC, inline-four engine to deliver 152bhp@ 11,000 RPM of maximum power and 106Nm@9,250rpm of peak torque. The motorcycle is armed with the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) which comes with a variety of advanced electronic control systems. S.I.R.S. features Suzuki Traction Control System (STCS), Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS), Ride-by-Wire Electronic Throttle System, Low RPM Assist, and Suzuki Easy Start System.

The suspension setup consists of fully-adjustable inverted telescopic forks at the front, coupled with link-type coil spring at the back. The Katana gets dual disc brakes up front, paired with a single unit at the rear with Brembo calipers. Suzuki is offering the motorcycle in India in two color options - Metallic Mystic Silver and Metallic Stellar Blue.
