Swami Prabhuananda: An Indian philosopher, did these important works

Swami Prabhuanand was born on 4th July, 1893. He was an Indian philosopher, monk and religious guru of the Ramakrishna Order. He moved to the U.S. in 1923, founded the Vedanta Society of Southern California in 1930 and spent the rest of his life there. He joined the Ramakrishna Order after graduating from Calcutta University in 1914. Today is going to highlight the important moments of his life on the occasion of his death anniversary.

He was deported to the United States in 1923. Initially, he served as assistant minister of the Vedanta Society of San Francisco. Two years later, he founded the Vedanta Society of Portland. In December 1929, he moved to Los Angeles, where he founded the Vedanta Society of Southern California in 1930. Prabhavanand was a scholar who wrote Vedanta and several books on Indian religious texts and commentary. He was assisted in several projects by Christopher Eicherwood or Frederick Manchester. His extensive knowledge of philosophy and religion attracted disciples like Aldes Huxley and Gerald Herd.

The review says that "Swami Prabhuanand has written an attractive and authoritative book on India's spiritual heritage. Prabhuanda died on July 4, 1976, in the biennial of U.S. independence.
