New Delhi: Swami Vivekananda's historic speech in the US 128 years ago has a big hand in his disciples. 128 years have passed since Swami Vivekananda's speech at the World Religions Conference in Chicago (USA) on September 11, 1883. Born on January 12, 1863, this proved to be a historic speech in the life of Swami Vivekananda.

When Swami Vivekananda started his speech with 'My American Brothers and Sisters' 128 years ago, the auditorium erupted in applause for several minutes. It is said that the people of Kathiawar in south Gujarat first suggested swami Vivekananda participate in the World Dharma Sammelan. Then his disciples from Chennai made the same request to Swami Ji. Vivekananda himself wrote that King Bhaskar Sethupathi of Tamil Nadu had suggested this to him for the first time. After which Swami Ji reached Kanyakumari.

You will be surprised to know that Swami Ji swam to the rock in the sea, which is today called Vivekananda Rock. There he focused on India's past and future for three days. When Swami Ji returned to Chennai, his disciples made all arrangements for him to go to Chicago. For which all the disciples had gathered together to raise money for their Guru. But Swami Ji said that all the money raised should be distributed among the poor.
