JAKARTA: There is nothing which can not be achieved by Strong determination and passion. Swapna Barman has proved that no matter what the circumstances are but if you are passionate about anything you can achieve the impossible. She belongs to a financially humble family and daughter of a Rickshaw puller but she fought with all the unfavourable circumstances and finally bag a gold in heptathlon Asian Games for Indian and made it proud at the global platform.
With this magnificent victory, she becomes the first woman to win gold in Heptathlon. Swapna secured first place with 6026 points in seven competitions.
What is Heptathlon?
In Heptathlon athletes have to participate in 7 different stages. In the first stage is the 100-meter race. Second high jump, third shot put, fourth 200-meter race, 5th long jump and sixth javelin throw. The last phase of this event is 800 meters race. The athlete of first, second and third place is decided on the basis of point earned by athletes in this stages.
Swapna lives in Jalpaiguri in West Bengal and after this success, a crowd of people gathered outside her house in West Bengal's Ghosapada, and the sweets were distributed all around. Her family is very happy as Swapna made them and whole nation proud on the international level. Her mother said that they are very happy and she & Swapna's dad toiled hard to help her in her journey. Today all our dreams came true.
India's performance in the tournament
Indian players are performing very well in Asian Games and proving their matte in different games. India has won 11 Gold, 20 silver and 23 bronze medals so far in this tournament.
