Swaraj to kick off her first two-day official Nepal visit

Kathmandu [Nepal], Jan 31 (NT): Ahead of her Nepal visit, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will meet with the CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Thursday.

According to the Kathmandu Post, Sushma Swaraj will put words in the "special political message" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Oli.

Swaraj will begin her two-day official visit to Nepal from Thursday, in an attempt to reach out to Nepal's political leadership following the formation of a new government by a Communist alliance.

The new Foreign Secretary Vijay K. Gokhale and Sudhakar Dalela, Joint Secretary (North) of the EAM will accompany Swaraj.

Swaraj will meet Nepali President Bidhya Devi Bhandari and current Nepali Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. She will also meet Maoist leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and Madhesi leaders.

During a recent Republic day event in Kathmandu, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri assured that New Delhi was ready to work and cooperate with the new government in Nepal.

On January 21, Prime Minister Narendra Modi telephoned Oli and pat his back in advance on his succeeds in the just-concluded Nepal elections. Both leaders invited each other to visit their respective nations. (NT)
