Stockholm: There is a fierce movement against the hijab in Iran. Muslim women in Iran are taking to the streets and burning their headscarves. Meanwhile, an Iraqi-born Swedish politician cut her hair during a debate in the European Parliament in solidarity with anti-government protesters in Iran. Abir al-Sahalani gave a tremendous speech on the repression of Iranian women. They have demanded an unconditional and immediate end to all forms of violence against citizens. She has also called for women's freedom in Iran.
During her address to Sweden's parliament, Sahalani takes out scissors and cuts her ponytail and puts it in front, saying, "Until the women of Iran become independent, we will stand with them." Mehsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman, was beaten by police after she was arrested by Iran's notorious police, after which she died. After this, Muslim women in Iran took to the streets and started opposing the hijab. Mehsa was arrested because her body part was seen through her hijab.
As soon as the news of Amini's death spread, fierce protests started across Iran. Women across the country protested in public against the Islamic country's strict rules on women's dress by removing their headscarves and cutting their hair.
