Burn: There is a controversy in many countries around the world regarding Hijab/Burqa. While Muslim women in Iran are agitating against radicalism by burning their hijabs, school girls in India are adamant about the demand to wear the hijab inside the classroom. Meanwhile, preparations are underway to ban the wearing of hijab or face covering in public places in Switzerland. Not only this, a fine of 1000 francs i.e. about 82 thousand rupees will also be imposed for violating these rules. The Swiss Federal Council has announced to propose a draft law in this regard in Parliament.

However, the draft sent to Parliament does not mention the burqa by name. Along with this, some discounts have also been talked about. The bill will come into force in Switzerland after Parliament approves the draft law. Sputnik has pointed out that only the government would allow face coverings for health reasons, safety issues, climatic conditions, local customs, artistic purposes and advertising. At the same time, the ban on face coverings on the premises of diplomatic and consular offices, board planes, churches and other places of worship will not apply.

Let us tell you that 5 per cent of the total population in Switzerland is Muslim, many of whom are from Turkey and the Balkan states. The proposal to ban face coverings in public places was approved in a referendum in 2021. Earlier on 7 March 2021, Switzerland voted on a proposal to ban face coverings in public places. In Europe, Denmark, Austria, the Netherlands and Bulgaria have partially or completely banned face coverings in public.
