Volkswagen announced on Thursday that pricing for the Polo, Vento, and Taigun, its mid-size SUV, will increase on January 1st. Volkswagen is now one of six automakers to announce a price increase starting in January.

The price increase will range between 2% and 5%, depending on the model and version selected. "Due to the significant rise in input and operating expenses, we have chosen to raise the pricing of our product range by 2% to 5% while keeping the impact on customers to a minimum." "Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, put it, "at a very minimum level." "Over the years, we've worked hard to make our brand, goods, and services more accessible to our customers, and to establish Volkswagen as the brand of choice."

Volkswagen now provides a variety of vehicles, including the aforementioned types as well as the Tiguan and Tiguan AllSpace, among others. However, all eyes will be on a mid-size car set to debut in the Indian market in early 2022.

While new technologies are projected to increase demand, rising costs and a global semiconductor scarcity are usually considered as ongoing challenges. Price rises have already been announced by Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Audi, and Mercedes, among others.

Then there's the possibility of a third wave of Covid-19 pandemic in India, owing to an increase of Omnicron cases. While the epidemic has increased demand for personal mobility choices, any hypothetical lockdown might put a strain on already overloaded production and supply systems.
