Agra Municipal Corporation has sent notice of house tax and water tax of Rs 2 crore regarding the Taj Mahal. In fact, the Municipal Corporation has given only 15 days time by sending a notice to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Let us tell you that an ASI officer told that, 'A few days ago, he has received a notice from the Municipal Corporation, in which it has also been said to attach the property for non-payment of tax. In this, it has been asked to deposit a water tax of Rs 1.9 crore and house tax of Rs 1.5 crore.'

With this, ASI officer Rajkumar Patel said, 'Property tax is not levied on buildings which are national heritage. At the same time, there is no commercial use of water, so the responsibility of paying water tax is not on us. Water is used only to maintain the greenery around the Taj Mahal. It has happened for the first time that a tax notice has been sent regarding water and property.' With this, he said, 'It is possible that this notice has been sent by mistake.'

Let us tell you that Municipal Commissioner Nikhil T Phunde said, 'I am not aware of any action regarding the Taj Mahal tax. The notices are being sent across the state on the basis of Geographic Information System (GIS). This survey has been done for tax calculation. It also includes government offices and religious places to which notices have been sent.' Apart from this, tax exemption will also be given as per the rules. If notice has been sent to ASI then necessary action will be taken after their response.

On the other hand, Assistant Municipal Commissioner in charge Sarita Singh said, 'The matter of sending water and property tax notice to Taj Mahal is being investigated. According to the GIS survey, a private company was given the responsibility of sending the notice.' With this, ASI officials have to say that, 'The Taj Mahal has been included in the national heritage. It was only during British rule in 1920 that it was included in the protected building. Accordingly, no tax should be levied.'
