New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has sought a response from the Delhi Police on the Punjab Police's plea to quash the FIR registered in the alleged kidnapping case of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga. The High Court has sent notices to Delhi Police, the Delhi government and Tajinder Bagga on a petition filed by Manpreet Singh, SP (Rural), SAS Nagar in Punjab.

Justice Anu Malhotra said that ordering the respondents to file their reply within four weeks, listed the matter for further hearing on July 26. The high court said it would go through the entire record of the case before coming to any conclusion regarding issuing notice on the petition. On May 6, the Punjab Police had arrested Bagga from his Janakpuri home, but the Delhi Police brought him back from Haryana. The Delhi Police had alleged that his Punjab counterpart had not informed him about the arrest.

The Delhi Police had registered a kidnapping FIR against Punjab Police personnel late on the night of May 6 after Bagga was arrested by Punjab police in connection with allegedly making inflammatory statements, promoting hatred and criminal intimidation. The Punjab Police in its petition has claimed that when they reached Janakpuri police station on May 6 to inform about Bagga's arrest, the Delhi Police refused to cooperate and detained him illegally.
