Melbourne: Australian SBS TV quoted a spokesman for the terror group Taliban as saying they have banned women's sports, especially women's cricket. Quoting Ahmadullah Wasik, deputy head of the Taliban's Cultural Commission, SBS TV said, "There are situations in cricket that the mouth and body cannot be covered. Islam does not allow women to look like this.''

He said, 'This is the age of the media in which photos and videos will be viewed. Islam and the Islamic Emirates do not allow women to play cricket or games that show their bodies.' He said the Taliban will continue male cricket and has allowed the team to play a Test in Australia in November. However, Cricket Australia (CA) later said in a statement that if the Report on the Taliban's approach to women's sports is true, the Test will not be played from November 27.

The statement said, "Cricket Australia gives great importance to the development of women's cricket around the world. We believe that sports are for everyone and women at each level also have equal rights to play. If reports of a ban on women's sports in Afghanistan are true, we will not host the Test in Hobart.'' Earlier, Australian Sports Minister Richard Colbeck had also demanded action from the International Cricket Council (ICC) in this regard.
