According to an official, Afghanistan's Under-19 squad began to arrive in Bangladesh on Saturday for a short series, marking it the first Afghan cricket team to play outside of Afghanistan since the Taliban took control. Between September 10 and 25, they will play five one-dayers and a four-day match against Bangladesh's Under-19 squad at the Sylhet International Stadium.
''Today, the first eight players arrived in Dhaka. The remaining players will come in two batches'', according to Rabeed Imam, a spokesman for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Since the Taliban took control of much of their country in mid-August, they are the first Afghan side to play international cricket in any form.
After arriving in Dhaka, the Afghan sportsmen immediately headed for Sylhet, a city in northern Bangladesh, according to Imam. The BCB released a video of them arriving at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in red t-shirts. The series is also Bangladesh's U-19 cricketers' first competitive action after winning the World Cup in February 2020.
