Kabul: After killing noted Afghanistan comedian Nazar Mohammad alias Khasa, the Taliban has now killed Abdullah Atefi, a poet and historian from Afghanistan's Uruzgan province. According to the governor of the province, the Taliban tortured Atefi a lot before committing the murder.

Journalist Frud Bezhan, who is reporting on issues related to Afghanistan and Pakistan, tweeted about Atefi's murder. Bezhan said that poet and historian Atefi was killed in Chora district of Afghanistan's southern province of Uruzgan, which has been under Taliban control since last June. Uruzgan Province Governor Mohammad Omar Sirzad has said that wherever the Taliban is in control, academicians, writers, social activists, poets, artists, and women are being tortured, intimidated, and even murdered.

According to Sirzad, Abdullah Atefi was dragged out of the house before he was killed and tortured. Afghan Vice President Amrullah Saleh condemned Atefi's assassination and said Afghanistan's scholars are in danger and the Taliban wants to eliminate them and make the country barren. Saleh also said that Atefi's only mistake was that he knew the economy and history. However, a Taliban spokesman has denied the involvement of Taliban assailants in Atefi's murder.
