Kabul: Taliban militants shot a young girl for not wearing a hijab, an Afghan official said on Wednesday. Naznin, 21, was on his way to Afghanistan's Balkh district center when Taliban militants pulled her out of the car and killed her, the Afghanistan Times reported. However, Taliban spokesman Zabeehullah Mujahid has denied the allegations.
After capturing new territories in Afghanistan, the Taliban has reimposed repressive law and regressive policies on Afghan women, as it did during 1996-2001 when the Taliban implemented Islamic Sharia law. It is reported that the Taliban is forcing Afghan women to cover themselves from head to toe, banning them from working outside their homes, severely restricting girls' education, and women need to leave with a male relative.
In some areas of Faryab, the Taliban has also banned women from selling goods at shops. Local residents have said that it is the brutality of the Taliban regime that rule-breakers are often severely punished, including public beatings.
