Kabul: After the occupation of Afghanistan, the Taliban on Tuesday addressed the whole world from the capital Kabul for the first time. Addressing a press conference, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid talked about respecting the rights of women, but said that this would be done within the norms of Islamic law. He also promised that Taliban fighters would defend the country after taking over the reins of Afghanistan. Zabiullah Mujahid said that the fighters do not want to take revenge on anyone and all have been cleared.

Mujahid said in his statement that he is committed to providing women their rights on the basis of Islam. Simultaneously, he said that women can work in the health sector and other areas wherever required and there will be no discrimination against them. Mujahid also pointed out that the Taliban wanted the individual media to be 'free,' but he specifically underlined that reporters should not 'act against the values of the country.' Mujahid said he has 3 suggestions that personal media will have to implement. Talking about these, he said that the first suggestion is that no broadcast should be contrary to Islamic values. Secondly, the media has to be fair, and thirdly, nobody should broadcast anything which is against our national interests.
