Chennai: A 12th standard student in Karur, Tamil Nadu, was fed up with sexual harassment and committed suicide on Friday. The victim wrote in her suicide note before committing suicide that 'I should be the last girl to die of sexual assault.' Police said Vengmedu's 17-year-old victim was studying in a private school in Karur. The student returned home from school on Friday evening and hanged herself in the absence of her widowed mother. Vengamedu police said that the body of the student has been taken into custody and kept in Karur GMCH for postmortem and a suicide note has been seized and a case has been registered.
Police said the suicide note left by the student during the investigation has been recovered. The note read, 'I should be the last girl to die due to sexual harassment in Karur district. I'm afraid to say who's the reason for my decision. I wanted to stay on earth for a long time and help others, but now I have to leave the world.' The student also wrote that she loved her family very much and that she should be forgiven for the move. Police said the victim's father had died two years ago after which her cousin and her grandmother were taking care of her and her widowed mother.
The girl was under stress after losing her father. She became even more upset when her cousin and grandmother also passed away with whom she had a close relationship. Police sources said, 'The girl had been undergoing severe mental depression for the past few months after losing her loved ones. So we are currently trying to find out who is involved in the sexual assault of the girl. We are also taking information from the neighbourhood and her school'. Police said the student did not write any criminal's name in her suicide note.
