Meanwhile, the body of a man in his 20s was found at the IIT Madras campus on Thursday. The body was partially burnt. The deceased has been identified as Unni Krishnan Nair. He worked as a research scholar with a guest lecturer at IIT Madras. A rbink investigation reveals that it could be a suicide case as police have received a suicide note from one of his books in his room.
Nair was a resident of Kerala and his father worked with ISRO. The students found Nair's body near the hockey ground inside the campus around 8pm on Thursday. Police from Kotturpuram police station rushed to the spot and seized the body. The body was taken to Royapetta Government Hospital for postmortem. Police said they are waiting for the post mortem report for further investigation in the case.
Police said the skin on the victim's face and some other parts were partially burnt. According to police, no suspicious material has been found near the body. Meanwhile, IIT-Madras has issued a statement on the death of the guest lecturer saying that an unfortunate and tragic incident took place at the IIT Madras campus yesterday (Thursday). He said the guest lecturer was associated with the institute in April this year and was staying outside the campus. The Institute further said that we are shocked and deeply saddened and convey our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the departed soul.
