Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Explores Major Investments in AI and Technology During US Visit

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin concluded a highly successful visit to the United States, focused on attracting significant investments in technology and infrastructure for the state.

In a recent update, Stalin shared that he had productive discussions with BNY Mellon regarding potential investments in Artificial Intelligence (AI). On social media, he noted, "Had productive discussions with BNY Mellon on exploring potential AI investment opportunities. Let's embrace the future through technology, harnessing AI's transformative power."

BNY Mellon, a leading global financial services firm, offers investment management and other financial services to both individuals and institutions.

During his trip, Stalin also announced several key agreements. On August 31, 2024, he secured an agreement with Ohmium to establish a new factory in Chengalpattu district. This facility will produce electrolysers and green hydrogen, with an investment of Rs 400 crores and the creation of 500 jobs. Stalin highlighted that this deal represents a crucial step towards fostering a green energy ecosystem in the state.

On August 30, 2024, Stalin held meetings with senior executives from major tech companies including Apple, Google, and Microsoft. An MoU was signed with Google to set up AI labs in Tamil Nadu, further advancing the state's technological capabilities.

The visit also yielded several other noteworthy agreements:

  • An MoU with Trilliant, valued at Rs 2000 crores, to build a manufacturing unit and a Development & Global Support Centre in Tamil Nadu.
  • Agreements with Lincoln Electric, Vishay Precision, and Visteon totaling Rs 850 crores.
  • An MoU with Eaton for a Rs 200 crore expansion of its R&D and engineering centre in Chennai, which will create 500 new jobs.
  • A pact with Assurant to establish the first Global Capability Centre in Tamil Nadu.

In addition, during an investors' conference in San Francisco on August 29, 2024, Stalin secured MoUs with six prominent global companies—Nokia, PayPal, Yield Engineering Services, Microchip, Infinx Healthcare, and Applied Materials. These agreements, totaling Rs 900 crores, are expected to generate 4,100 new job opportunities.

 

 

Stalin's efforts reflect a strong commitment to enhancing Tamil Nadu's economic growth and technological advancement.
