CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government has formed a committee led by Madras High Court Justice (Retired) K. Chandru to investigate the impact of online gaming company ads on the general public, including financial losses and suicides. On Thursday, a meeting convened by Chief Minister MK Stalin made the decision to appoint a committee. The group will present its report in two weeks, according to the state government.
IIT technology specialist Shankaraman, creator of SNEHA and psychologist Lakshmi Vijayakumar, and Additional Director General of Police Vinit Dev Wankhede are the other members of the committee. According to the state authorities, numerous persons who were drawn to online gaming lost their money and committed suicide after becoming deeply in debt.
Leading political parties such as the AIADMK and the PMK have asked that the DMK administration pass legislation prohibiting online gaming, which they have dubbed "online gambling." The former AIADMK administration enacted legislation prohibiting online gaming, but the Madras High Court overturned it.
