CHENNAI: In a significant move, the Tamil Nadu government has appointed Shiv Das Meena as the new Chief Secretary of the state. Meena, an accomplished IAS officer from the 1989 batch, will take charge from V. Iraianbu, who is set to retire on June 30.

Earlier media reports indicated that Shiv Das Meena was chosen over Hans Raj Varma, who was also in contention for the prestigious Chief Secretary post.

Currently serving as the additional Chief Secretary of the Municipal Administration and Water Services Department, Shiv Raj Meena brings with him a wealth of experience. Prior to his role in Tamil Nadu, he held a position with the Union Ministry for Housing and Urban Affairs in New Delhi.

Shiv Das Meena's extensive network and strong connections in New Delhi have played a pivotal role in his selection as the new Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, as per sources within the DMK. His rapport and influence in the capital have been key factors in considering him for this crucial position.

In Delhi, Mr. Meena held the position of Chairman of the Central Pollution Control Board. He received a request from the State government during his tenure. Currently, he serves as the MAWS Secretary.

Originally from Rajasthan, Mr. Meena previously worked closely with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin during the time when the latter served as the Minister for Local Administration in the previous DMK regime. Additionally, he served as one of the four secretaries to former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa during the AIADMK regime.
