Chennai: The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Act will be amended by the Tamil Nadu government. A meeting of the HR&CE department's advisory council, chaired by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, has resolved to alter the current HR&CE Act.

The meeting took place on Thursday. It should be noted that the HR&CE department currently operates under the HR&CE Act of 1959.

The HR&CE department's advisory council will be printing Sthalapuranas and rare books, and also digitising and selling rare books to devotees. The department will also host religious discourses, spiritual classes, and other events, with well-known Tamil novelist and academic Suki Sivam in charge, and Kundragudi Ponnambala Adigalar in charge of the department's publication.

The department will also publish the Agamas, which are the foundations for historical temples, in both English and Tamil. According to the department advisory meeting, the HR&CE department will organise spiritual talks and religious dialogues to instil the value of spirituality and dharma among the youths.

In addition, the HR&CE department will fully computerise the temple services offered to devotees. Temples with an annual turnover of more than Rs 10 lakh will be assigned non-hereditary trustees under HR&CE.
