Chennai: A Hindu man living in Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu has decided to donate his Rs 2 crore house after being disturbed by his children who converted to Christianity. Velayatham, an 85-year-old Kanchipuram resident, fears that both his daughters and a son will not be able to cremate them according to Hindu customs. So, in a big step, he has decided to donate his house to his totem Kumarkottam Murugan Temple.

According to reports, Velayatham, who works in the health department in the Tamil Nadu government, has now retired. They have a 2,680 sq ft house, which is worth about Rs 2 crore. Talking to a local Tamil daily newspaper, he said he was deeply saddened. Velayudham regretted that he had built the house with his hard-earned money, but his three children had married Christian and become Christians. So according to Hindu tradition, there is no one in the family who cremated him now. He said, "As a Hindu, my last rites should be performed only through the customs of Hindu tradition. My three children have converted to Christianity. Therefore, they are not worthy of my last rites as per Hindu tradition.''

Isolated from his family, Velayatham further said, 'Even if I die after becoming a Christian, they will not perform my last rites. That's why I am not inclined to give away my property to those who have become Christians.' At present, their two children live in a part of the same house. Velayatham said to them that, 'He can stay here as long as my wife and I live, but when we die, this house will be the authority of the temple administration.' According to Velayatham, he has submitted the sale deed to the HRCE minister. After the couple's death, their house will be taken over by the temple administration.
