Chennai: A Dalit youth working at a petrol pump in Villupuram, adjoining Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, was beaten to death by crowd. Actually, the Dabangas first forbade the Dalit youth to defecate on the road. Subsequently, he was beaten up, killing the young man. Video of this incident is going viral on social media.
After this, police officials have taken action in the case and arrested seven people. The case is currently under investigation. According to a police officer who is investigating, a Dalit youth was attacked. The village is a stronghold of the socially powerful Vaniyars (OBC) community in northern Tamil Nadu. This community has been on fire against Dalits.
According to the police, the deceased youth belonged to the Adi Dravidian community of Shaktivelal Dalit community. The deceased's sister R Thivanni, while talking to the media, alleged that the mob lynching and killing of her brother was done only because of being a Dalit. When the deceased youth's sister Thivanni reached there with her six-month-old child on the scooter with the help of a relative, her brother was blood-soaked. It is surrounded by 15-20 people. Thiwanni told the police that I see those people again kicking my brother, kicking him with shoes, sticks. Police is currently proceeding to get the accused to jail.
