Chennai: A college student was gang-raped by five people on Thursday (January 12) near Bengaluru-Puducherry Highway in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. The victim and her male friend were talking near a private school around 7 pm on Thursday when a gang of five men surrounded them and threatened the victim's friend at knifepoint. They then took turns raping the victim.
The accused also threatened to kill and bury the woman if opposed. The victim and her friend somehow managed to escape and reached their relatives, who admitted the woman to the hospital and informed the police. The woman told the police that she could not recognize anyone in the absence of light, but heard one of the accused calling the other Vimal.
The police then traced Vimal in Vipadu village and arrested him when he tried to escape. Along with Vimal, Tamil Nadu Police also traced the remaining 4 accused, who have been identified as Manikandan, Sivakumar, Vignesh, and Thenarasu. All five accused were charged with rape and sent to judicial custody.
