Chennai: A Roman Catholic priest in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu has been arrested for spreading hatred and enmity among religious groups and making objectionable remarks against PM Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, DMK leader, and others. In fact, George Ponniah, an adviser to the NGO Jananyag Christiana Pervai Amaipu, made highly controversial remarks about Hindus at a meeting held at Arumnai in Kanyakumari.

At the same time, in his speech, he had also said that the Church had campaigned in favor of DMK in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. He said DMK's victory in the assembly elections was a "begging given by Christians and Muslims." He had also made hateful remarks about Hinduism, PM Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah.
