Chennai: One of the accused in the murder of K Armstrong, Bahujan Samaj Party's (BSP) Tamil Nadu chief, was killed in a police encounter on Saturday night, according to police reports. Thiruvengadam, a known history-sheeter allegedly involved in the murder, was killed near Madhavaram in Chennai. Police revealed that Thiruvengadam had been tracking Armstrong's movements for several days before the murder.

K Armstrong was allegedly hacked to death on July 5 by six unidentified individuals near his residence in Chennai's Perambur area. A group of bike-borne assailants attacked Armstrong with knives, leaving him fatally injured on the road. Despite being rushed to a private hospital, he was declared brought dead. So far, at least 11 suspects have been arrested in connection with the case.

The incident has sparked a significant political outcry in Tamil Nadu, with opposition parties criticizing the MK Stalin-led government for a perceived law and order failure. BSP supremo Mayawati has demanded a CBI probe into Armstrong's murder, asserting that those arrested so far were not the real culprits. She urged Chief Minister Stalin to involve the central agency to ensure justice.

In response, Chief Minister Stalin visited Armstrong's family, assuring them that the perpetrators would be brought to justice. He conveyed his condolences to Armstrong's wife and family members, promising that all those involved in the heinous crime would face legal consequences.
