Madurai is a city in Tamil Nadu. Former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader VK Sasikala's supporters gathered around her vehicle on Friday to show their support as she drove away from Madurai after paying floral tributes to freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar. Earlier this month, Sasikala said that the AIADMK regime should be restored to power in Tamil Nadu while speaking to party workers at an event.

The AIADMK knows why I abstained from the election; it is the responsibility of all of us to maintain supremacy; it is past time for us to unite for the people; all we need is unity; the Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)  regime must be restored,  the former leader said.

However, earlier this year, Sasikala announced that she would stay away from politics and public life after the AIADMK lost the assembly and local body elections. "I set myself apart from politics and pray for the golden rule of my Goddess Akka (Jayalalithaa)," Sasikala said in a statement. "I will continue to pray for her vision always."
