Hindu temple in Tamil Nadu vandalized by miscreants: Beheaded Shiva statue, Broken Shivlinga

Chennai: A temple has once again been targeted in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. This time, the attackers have ransacked a Shiva temple in the Pudukkottai district of the state. This temple dates back to the Chola empire. The statues of the deity were demolished there. Statues of Lord Shiva, Mother Parvati, and Ganesha were present inside the temple. Shivlinga has been cut off. The incident took place last week.

 

 

Local media reported that a group of unidentified assailants broke into a local temple in Kizananchur village of Pudukkottai district last week and ransacked and damaged a statue of Shivlingam and Lord Shiva installed there. According to media reports, the Kailasanathar temple in Kizhanchur, a village in Pudukkottai district, is believed to have been built by Chola ruler Kulothanunga Chola III. The temple has statues of other deities like Ganesha, Parvati, Murugan, Krishna, and Nandi.

According to the report, the incident came to light when villagers went inside the temple complex 2 days ago. They saw this shocking sight there. The villagers were surprised to see the damaged idols of Lord Shiva and Shivlingam on the floor of the temple. The attackers had cut the Shivlinga into two pieces and beheaded the statue of Lord Shiva. After the incident, villagers have urged the police to find the culprits at the earliest, alleging that it was an inspired attack on Hindu temples in the state.
