New Delhi: Tarun Kapoor, the former petroleum secretary, has been appointed as an adviser to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to an order issued by the Personnel Ministry on Monday.

"The Cabinet Appointments Committee has approved Kapoor's appointment as advisor to the Prime Minister in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), in the rank and scale of Secretary to the Government of India, initially for a period of two years from the date of joining," the statement stated.

On November 30, 2021, Kapoor, a 1987-batch IAS official from the Himachal Pradesh cadre, retired as the secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Hari Ranjan Rao and Atish Chandra, both senior bureaucrats, have been appointed as additional secretary in the PMO. Rao is the Administrator, Universal Services Obligation Fund in the Department of Telecommunications. He is a Madhya Pradesh cadre lAS officer from the 1994 batch.

Chandra is the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Food Corporation of India, Department of Food and Public Distribution, and is a batchmate from the Bihar cadre.
