Tata commissioned world's largest rooftop solar plants in Punjab

Tata Power Solar has successfully commissioned a 12 MW solar rooftop project for R.S.S.B. Educational and Environmental Society in Amritsar.

Built across eight sheltered venues in a single premise at the Radha Soami Satsang Beas - Dera Baba Jaimal Singh in Amritsar, the project is the largest solar rooftop plant in the world set up in a single phase.

Spanning an area of 82 acres, it costs around Rs 139 crore. he plant will produce more than 150 lakh units of power annually and offset over 19000 tonnes of carbon emissions every year.

Punjab New & Renewable Energy Resources Minister Bikram Singh Majithia said, "this project would generate clean and green energy sufficient to power approximately 8,000 homes".

According to him,"Punjab is generating 470 MW of solar power and with projects of 500 MW in the pipeline, the state would be able to generate solar power close to 1,000 MW by the end of FY 2016-17."
