Tata Motors has unveiled its new electric SUV, the Curvv EV, aiming to solidify its position in India’s growing electric vehicle market. Priced between ₹17.49 lakh and ₹21.99 lakh, the Curvv EV is set to rival the MG ZS EV, which is priced between Rs.18.98 lakh and Rs.25.44 lakh.

Equipped with a 123 kWh motor, the Curvv EV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.6 seconds. It features standard safety equipment, including six airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), all-wheel disc brakes, and acoustic alerts for pedestrian safety. It also includes Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The new SUV offers three engine options: two petrol and one diesel, including the Hyperion GDi engine, which produces 125 hp and 225 Nm of torque. The Curvv EV boasts a 1.2C charging rate, allowing for a 150 km range with just 15 minutes of charging. It can reach a top speed of 160 km/h and is claimed to have a range of 585 km, with real-life expectations between 400-425 km.

With this launch, Tata Motors expands its EV lineup to five models, including the Nexon EV, Punch EV, Tiago EV, and Tigor EV. The Curvv EV combines the ruggedness of an SUV with the sleek design of a coupé. Initially, it will be available in its electric version, with a petrol version to follow.

The Curvv EV is designed for long-distance travel, offering a 150 km range with just a 15-minute top-up, making journeys like Chennai to Bengaluru feasible without frequent recharges.

In July, electric vehicle sales in India surged by 55.2% year-on-year, reaching 1,79,038 units, largely driven by a 96% increase in e-two-wheeler sales, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers' Association (FADA). Total EV sales for July 2023 were 1,16,221 units.

Key Features of the Tata Curvv EV:

  • Battery: 45-55 kWh pack
  • Engine: 1.2 GDi Hyperion engine in internal combustion variant
  • Safety: Six airbags, acoustic alert system
  • Interior: Modern, spacious cabin with state-of-the-art technology and a bold color scheme
