After a video of one of Tata Motor's electric vehicles going up in flames appeared on social media, India's Tata Motors launched an investigation into what it called a "isolated heat incident." Firefighters were seen in the viral video attempting to douse the flames in a Nexon electric vehicle (EV) in a Mumbai suburb. Reuters was reportedly unable to independently verify the video.
"To ascertain the details of the recent isolated heat incident that is trending on social media, a thorough investigation is now being carried out. Following the conclusion of our investigation, we will provide a thorough answer "The statement was released by India's largest electric vehicle maker Tata Motors. After selling more than 30,000 Electronic Vehicles, the majority of which were its Nexon model, the company claimed that this was the first instance of its kind.
The incident comes after a string of e-scooter fires that prompted the Indian government to launch an investigation. According to Reuters, the federal investigation into three e-scooter manufacturers, including SoftBank-backed Ola Electric, revealed that faulty battery cells and modules were the primary cause of fires.
