New Delhi: N. Chandrasekaran, the chairman of Tata Sons, has been named the next chairman of Air India. Chandrasekaran's appointment as the domestic carrier Air India’s next Chairman was approved by the Tata Sons board on Monday. However, the hunt for Air India's CEO  continues.

Ilker Ayci, a Turkish national, had declined to be Air India's CEO earlier this month. Ayci was said to be close to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is a Pakistani ally, according to some reports.

Tata Sons is a holding corporation that owns and operates over 100 Tata operational companies. Chandrasekaran joined the board of directors in 2016 and was elected chairman in January 2017.

Tata announced Ayci's appointment as CEO and Managing Director of Air India on February 14. Ayci was supposed to start his new job on April 1st, as per his contract.

When declining the invitation to be the CEO of Air India, Ayci said in a statement, "I have been attentively following news in some sectors of the Indian media aiming to tint my appointment with unfavourable colours."
