Tata Sons Pvt Ltd revealed its ambitious plan on July 19th to establish a groundbreaking battery cell gigafactory in the United Kingdom. With an impressive annual capacity of 40GW, this factory will generate a massive amount of cells each year.

In a statement, the holding company of the Tata Group emphasized that this investment, surpassing Euro4 billion, exemplifies their unwavering dedication to electric mobility and renewable energy storage solutions. Furthermore, it marks the creation of a formidable green tech ecosystem on a large scale within the UK.

Expressing his excitement, N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, declared that the Tata Group is fully committed to a sustainable future across all of its business ventures. Today, he proudly announced the establishment of one of Europe's largest battery cell manufacturing facilities in the UK.

He added, "Our investment, amounting to billions of pounds, will introduce cutting-edge technology to the country, providing impetus to the automotive sector's transition to electric mobility. This endeavor, anchored by our esteemed enterprise Jaguar Land Rover, will revolutionize the industry."

This strategic investment not only reinforces the Tata Group's commitment to the UK but also underlines their presence across various sectors such as technology, consumer goods, hospitality, steel, chemicals, and automotive. The Chairman emphasized the significance of this move, highlighting the multitude of companies operating within the UK.

In response to the news, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed his enthusiasm, acknowledging Tata Group's decision to build their gigafactory in the UK—a historic first outside of India. He described this investment as a resounding vote of confidence in Britain, particularly in the automotive sector, and emphasized its magnitude.

Sunak enthused, "The establishment of this gigafactory will not only create thousands of highly skilled jobs throughout the country but also bolster our position as global leaders in the shift towards electric vehicles. Tata Sons revealed that the battery gigafactory will manufacture top-tier, high-performance, sustainable battery cells and packs for diverse applications in the mobility and energy sectors. Anticipated to commence production in 2026, the factory will have Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Motors as anchor customers, solidifying their commitment to sustainable technology.
