On Tuesday, the Federation of All School Teachers of Meghalaya (FASTOM) urged the state government to call them to talks and to record the proceedings in writing. According to FASTOM president Kenneth Shadap, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma asked them to a meeting on September 27, 2021, but it was merely a verbal meeting.

"We wanted a formal meeting with an official tape, but there was simply a verbal recording," Shadap explained. According to him, the Chief Minister told the FASTOM team during that meeting that a deficit system could not be adopted. "At the very least, we've asked him to provide a deficit pattern," Shadap said.

In a letter to the State government on Tuesday, the FASTOM claimed that, owing to the COVID-19 situation and the government's financial problems, they are willing to compromise on their demand through an official conversation on what the government can and cannot do.

"The government should also be aware of the current situation of Meghalaya's ad-hoc school teachers. Essential commodity prices are rising daily, while ad-hoc teachers' meagre pay has been same since 2016, with no increase in the previous five years "Shadap said. Ad-hoc instructors, he claims, have entirely lost their identity and respect in society.

FASTOM's president also stated that on December 22, 2021, he wrote to Ramdas Athawale, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, pleading with the State government to comply with their requests. In response to FASTOM's letter, Athawale submitted the letter to the Chief Minister on December 23, 2021.
