At the end of four days of webinar on the theme, TEACHERS AS MENTORS, 190 teachers of 7 schools of Rajasthan were motivated to become mentors to their students. In their written evaluation most of the teachers wrote that they realized that the role of a teacher is more than an instructor. Hence they took a few resolutions to accompany their students in order to pay attention to their holistic development.

The webinar was conducted by Universal Solidarity Movement (USM), Indore from February 9 to 12, 2021. Principals and teachers of Sophia Schools of Kethrinagar, Jaipur, Mount Abu, Bilwara, Batla and Ajmer, and St. Paul’s Senior Secondary School, Ajmer participated in the webinar.

The webinar consisted of four sessions of one and half hours spread out on four days. The four sessions dealt with four topics: 1) Characteristics of a Mentor 2) Education for Social Transformation 3) Practical Module of Transformation and 4) Miracle of Possibility Thinking and Transformation. The webinar was conducted by a team consisting of Varghese Alengaden, Ms. Neetu Joshi and Jacob Peenikaparambil.

At the end of each session the participants were given 15 to 20 minutes for interaction during which they asked questions, clarifications and comments. The participants were given two or three questions based on the input session every day for further reflection on the topic. They wrote answers to the questions and the answers were collated by the concerned principals and made available to USM the next day. According to the participants, this process helped them to internalize the ideas shared during the session and take resolutions for applying the insights and learning to their personal and professional life.

Many teachers in their written evaluation acknowledged that the webinar was unique in its content and methodology. The webinar motivated them to take resolutions in order to bring about change in their personal life and in their teaching mission in view of becoming mentors.

From November 30, 2020 to February 12, 2021 USM organized webinars for 25 Schools and total 841 teachers participated in these webinars. USM has been able to reach out to more teachers and schools through webinars than through physical seminars. - Report made by Jacob Peenikaparambil.
