Kolkata: In West Bengal, the strike was not so quiet after the violence with doctors that even teachers have come out on the road. In Kolkata, a scuffle broke out between teachers and police on Mayuk Bhawan Island in salt lake area. Teachers of SSK, MSK and AS were on their way to Bikas Bhawan to meet the Education Minister on Monday.
Meanwhile, the police stopped the teachers from going to the Mayuk Bhawan island. Then a scuffle broke out between the teachers and the police. When the teachers tried to break the barricades, the police resorted to lathi-charge. The atmosphere there has since become tense. It may be mentioned that doctors in West Bengal have been on strike for the last 6 days. In fact, the case comes when a 75-year-old man died while undergoing treatment at Neel Ratna Sarkar Medical College on June 10.
The agitated family members of the deceased then abused the doctors present on the spot. The doctors did not give certificates till the family members apologised. Violence erupted again, shortly after the mob with weapons attacked the hospital. Two junior doctors were seriously injured, while several others sustained injuries.
