NEW DELHI: After the appointment of the head coach in Team India, all eyes are now on the batting coach. It is only in the past that the board has selected the current coach Ravi Shastri for a more tenure. Lalchand Rajput, who has been left out as the head coach, has now joined the race to become a batting coach for which he interviewed other contenders on Monday. The selection committee led by MSK Prasad will elect the associate members of the team.
The 57-year-old Rajput's bid for the batting coach has made the match interesting. Former Test batsman Vikram Rathore was already seen as a strong contender to replace Sanjay Bangar. Ravi Shastri, who was once again the team's head coach, pointed to retaining the existing associate members, which is believed to be a strong claim of bowling coach Bharat Aran and fielding coach R Sridhar.
However, the current batting coach Bangar will face a tough challenge, as most of the applications have come for this post. Sanjay Bangar has been associated with the team since 2014, with the Indian team playing 50 Tests and 119 ODIs as batting coaches. The entire process of selection of associate members is likely to continue till Thursday. The interviews of batting, bowling and fielding coaches will be held during the period.
