New Delhi: The Indian team will tour Sri Lanka without their top players to play a cricket series in July this year. The series will not include senior players like captain Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The senior players will prepare for the five-match Test series against England. The Indian team is scheduled to play a series of 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is in Sri Lanka.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, the tour will begin on July 13. The first match of the ODI series will be played on the same day. This will be followed by the second ODI on July 16 and the third ODI on July 19. With this, the T20 series will begin on July 22. The second match of the series will be played on July 24 and the third on July 27. Earlier, BCCI Chief Sourav Ganguly said, "We have planned a limited-overs series for the senior men's team in July, where they will play T20 Internationals and ODIs in Sri Lanka.'' He said it will be a team of white ball (limited-overs) experts. It will be different from the team that toured England.

At the same time, he said that it will not be possible for team India's top players to come from England in July as the quarantine rules are very strict there. For which the Sri Lanka-bound team may get a chance for players who have consistently performed well in IPL and domestic cricket. It may have names of players like Devdutt Padikkal, Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, and Harshal Patel.
