Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, the official branch of India, TRAI has given a New Year gift to the cable TV subscribers. TRAI has released a new tariff list of cable TV for users. These tariffs will be effective from 1 March 2020. Earlier, 100 free TV channels were offered to users at Rs 130 (without tax). After the new tariff is implemented, users will be able to select 200 free TV channels for Rs 130. Apart from this, TRAI has issued an order to keep channels priced above Rs 12 out of the bouquet list. Customers will be able to subscribe to these channels as stand-alone. TRAI has also asked cable and DTH operators to submit information on the website by 15 January.

TRAI had implemented a new tariff system from last year, in which viewers will pay only for the channels they wanted to see. Before the implementation of this system, viewers or users used to get every channel in the broadcaster's package. Because of which customers had to pay for the channels which they did not see. After the implementation of the new system, customers are paying Rs 130 and tax per month. In which they are being shown in 100 channels for free. Apart from this, if any viewers want to add paid channels to their package, then they have to pay according to the rate of each channel.

Three types of packages are being provided by DTH and cable operators to customers to choose their packages. In this, users have the option to choose their packages from the bouquet, a-la-carate and broadcaster packages of cable operators and DTH service providers.
