TEHRAN: If the US fails to make a decision, Tehran will not wait "forever" for a prospective nuclear deal, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh.

Khatibzadeh tweeted in response to his US counterpart's remark on Monday that Washington is ready to withdraw from the Vienna talks if Tehran becomes tough, according to reports, that the US has already "walked away" from the 2015 nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

"Everyone has a backup plan, however the United States' has shown to be ineffective. Blusters and bluffs haven't worked and won't work in the future. Decisions are made "He made a point.

"If the White House makes up its mind, a deal will be reached. Iran is willing to wait, but it will not do so indefinitely "He added.

In July 2015, Iran concluded the first nuclear deal with international powers. However, in May 2018, then-US President Donald Trump withdrew the US from the agreement and reimposed unilateral sanctions on Tehran, prompting the latter to abandon some of its nuclear pledges and resume its stalled nuclear program.

Since April 2021, eight rounds of talks have taken place in Vienna between Iran and the other JCPOA countries, namely the United Kingdom, China, France, Russia, and Germany, with the United States participating indirectly.
