HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has taken a significant step by granting approval for the establishment of 8 new government medical colleges across the state.

These colleges, along with government general hospitals, will each provide 100 seats for MBBS aspirants. They will be located in Maheshwaram (Rangareddy district), Yadadri (Yadadri Bhongir district), Medak (Medak district), Narsampet (Warangal district), Mulugu (Mulugu district), Narayanpet (Narayanpet district), Gadwal (Jogulamba Gadwal district), and Qutbullapur (Medchal Malkajgiri district). Notably, two of these colleges, Maheshwaram and Qutubullapur, will be situated on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The administrative approval for establishing these new medical colleges was granted by the state Health, Medical, and Family Welfare Secretary, S.A.M Rizvi.

Expressing his delight, Health Minister T. Harish Rao highlighted that this development fulfills the vision of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, which is to establish one medical college per district.

Aligning with the principles of Arogya Telangana, these colleges will create abundant opportunities for students to pursue medical education and significantly enhance healthcare services in the respective districts, as stated in his tweet.

With the addition of 800 new MBBS seats, the state's total number of available seats will rise to approximately 10,000.

Harish Rao proudly shared that Telangana accounts for 43 percent of the newly added MBBS seats in government medical colleges across India. Out of the total 2,118 seats increased for the 2023-24 academic year, 900 belong to Telangana.

In April, the government approved the establishment of two medical colleges, and for the upcoming academic year, a total of nine medical colleges have received approval. Notably, eight medical colleges have already commenced operations in the state since the 2022-23 academic year.

KCR's initiative to establish one medical college in each of the 33 districts has now become a reality, showcasing the government's commitment to improving healthcare and education access.
