HYDERABAD: Hyderabad police detained state Congress chief A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday after he called for protests on Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao's birthday.

To prevent Reddy from leading the protest, authorities detained him at his home in the Jubilee Hills area and sent him to the Golconda police station.

For the Chief Minister's birthday, Reddy, who is also a member of the Lok Sabha, had called on party cadres to hold rallies across the state to demand that the government fill vacancies in government departments. He had requested the Youth Congress to organise the demonstrations in order for KCR to keep all of his election promises.

Revanth Reddy resorted to Twitter to express his displeasure with the arrest. He posted a video of himself being arrested by the cops. "Police have arrested CM for the second day in a row so that he can celebrate his birthday. Unemployed teenagers are putting their lives on hold... Is it appropriate to rejoice now? "Reddy enquired.

The TPCC head was placed under house arrest on Wednesday after calling for protests to demand Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's imprisonment for making derogatory remarks about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
