HYDERABAD: The Telangana Congress on Friday slammed Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) for turning a blind eye to nearly 8,400 farmer suicides in Telangana and for not organising a trip to Punjab to compensate farmers who died during the nationwide farmers' movement over contentious farm legislation at the time.
Dasoju Sravan, a spokesperson for the AICC, questioned KCR's double standard, saying, "Telangana Chief Minister KCR, who can embarrass even Machiavelli by defrauding people, is preparing a fresh political drama. KCR has stated that he will console and compensate the families of Punjab farmers who died during the statewide protest against Farm Laws. It is absurd that CM KCR, who has turned a blind eye to the suicides of over 8400 Telangana farmers due to farm hardship, is moved by the struggles of Punjab farmers. Why did KCR back Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Farm Laws and why didn't he condemn attacks on farmers during the protests if he was truly worried about Punjab farmers? This is the pinnacle of political corruption. KCR is utilising farmers as puppets to gain a foothold in national politics "Dasoju Sravan said.
CM KCR will visit Chandigarh on Sunday to console 600 families of farmers who died during the nationwide farmers' movement. Each family would receive a Rs 3 lakh cash from Rao as financial support. Along with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, he will hand out checks. The farmers' families from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi will receive the cheques.
