Telangana police seek an extension of Custody of Serial killer

Hyderabad: On Wednesday, in the latest development in the arrest of a serial killer Marri Srinivas Reddy, Rachakonda police moved a petition before the court seeking his custody for 15 more days. The petition was posted for arguments by the court. Police are suspecting that Reddy could be involved in many more offences. Reportedly, villagers of Hajipur village have alleged that Reddy has also committed property offence apart from allegedly raping and murdering three minor girls.

Here it is to be noted that the incident came to light on April 25, when a resident of  Hajipur village lodged a police complaint in the case of his 14-year-old missing daughter. A special operation team was later formed by the police commissioner in the case which has nabbed the alleged serial killer. The minor girl was on her way back home when the accused gave her the lift and took her to a secluded spot. The accused remained in judicial custody.

It is to be noted that as per the reports by the Times of India, even after the arrest of the accused, there was an alert in Hajipur village. The villagers are protesting against the crime and have demanded that Reddy should get capital punishment for committing such a heinous crime. Bhongir DCP K Narayana Reddy told TOI that the accused had worked in two states and had been active in Kurnool, Adilabad, Vemulavada and other areas. Police are stating that an investigation would take place so as to ensure that if he was involved in more criminal offences.

However, it is worth mention here that the accused was booked for murder at Kurnool apart for allegedly raping and killing three minor girls in the outskirts of Hajipur village and hiding the evidence by dumping their bodies in a well. During his interrogation, the accused has confessed that he is a habitual sexual offender. He, along with four other men, were arrested by Kurnool police in 2016. But they later got out on bail as the identity of the victim could not be traced during the investigation. Meanwhile, Reddy has been arrested under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
